The Setup
Nine guys, all different cities, one shared Airbnb in North Myrtle. Most of them haven’t lived in the same state since college but they make this work every March. Flights paid in points, beers on the tab of whoever lost the Calcutta the year before.
The Format
A points-based season-long-style competition that started as a joke in 2019 and has now spawned a Google Sheet, a commissioner, and a trophy. The overall winner gets a custom headcover. Last place has to Venmo every other player a buck. It’s perfect.
The Courses
- TPC Myrtle Beach — best conditioned course of the trip, worth the bump
- True Blue — group favorite, played it twice
- Caledonia — the prettiest one, also the angriest greens
- Tidewater — closer for the last day, nobody had legs left
The Real Story
The trip works because the trip works. Same week every year. Calcutta Tuesday. Closing dinner Friday. The pool deck has a whiteboard. They’ve tracked the all-time skins leaderboard for six straight years. This isn’t a vacation, this is a format that pays compounding interest.
The Run-It-Back
It is genuinely impossible to imagine these guys not doing this. The MOD is “Rotational Classic” because once every few years they swap one course for something they haven’t played — but the bones of the trip are sacred.
