Do Girls Have More Fun on Golf Trips Than Guys?

Donna Taylor and Brittney Boo of GolfPartyLive join us to break down how women actually golf — themed play dates, decorated scorecards, cartwheels on the course, and 72-lady retreats to Napa. Donna is a scratch golfer and former University of Arizona scholarship player who quit the game because it was too serious. Now she teaches beginner ladies, hosts singles events, and runs a podcast with 158 episodes.

The Setup

Donna Taylor grew up as a golf pro’s daughter, started playing at age seven, and earned a full-ride scholarship to the University of Arizona — then quit after one year because she hated how serious golf was. After teaching beginner ladies, doing party-style yoga for athletes, and marrying Brittney’s dad during COVID, she rebuilt her relationship with the game through fun. Brittney Boo is Donna’s stepdaughter, co-host, and the voice of the newer golfer. She went from a 40-plus handicap to the high teens in under four years and now helps run GolfPartyLive, a women’s golf community built on themed events, destination retreats, and the radical idea that golf should be enjoyable.

The Format

GolfPartyLive runs monthly themed play dates, singles mixers, semi-private lessons, and multi-day golf retreats. Their signature event, the Ladies Golf Extravaganza, is a three-day member-guest-style tournament with kickoff parties, decorated scorecards, themed outfits, and prizes for the best “drops.” Trips rotate through Coronado, Tahoe, Nashville, Napa, and Silverado — with a 72-lady Napa retreat on deck for this year. Donna also teaches under the lights twice a week and records the GolfPartyLive podcast, now at 158 episodes.

The Hot Takes

  • Donna quit a Division I golf scholarship because the game owned her. After one year at Arizona, she walked away from competitive golf and did not come back seriously until COVID. Now she is a scratch golfer who shoots in the 60s and averages 74 — but she built her entire brand on making sure beginners never feel the pressure she did.
  • Half her students start golf to meet men. Donna is honest about why many ladies pick up clubs: the dating apps are horrible, and golf is one of the best places to meet someone. GolfPartyLive leans into it with co-ed singles play dates.
  • Themed golf is not optional — it is the point. Lady Luck, shamrocks, rainbows, decorated carts, custom balls, and full costumes. Donna’s husband thinks it is “lame” until he sees grown men in matching member-guest outfits head to toe. Then he gets it.
  • Ladies do cartwheels on the course. And sometimes flash the group. Brittney describes GolfPartyLive events as “a little crazy” — cartwheels, “buri juice,” and stories that do not make it home to the husbands.
  • Spouses who try to coach their wives are enemy number two. Donna’s most-downloaded podcast episodes are about relationships. Enemy number one is YouTube tips. Enemy number two is the husband who critiques his wife’s swing after she just spent an hour building confidence with Donna.
  • Couples who golf together do not always stay together. Donna’s non-negotiable after her divorce: he must play golf. She made it a rule. It did not save the relationship. The real test is whether he can drink and still have fun.
  • A 72-lady golf retreat to Napa is happening this year. Five-day trips with two rounds of golf, a fun day in between for biking or wineries, and a kickoff “circle up” so nobody is a stranger by the first tee.

The Run-It-Back

Donna and Brittney are proof that golf does not have to be stuffy, intimidating, or male-dominated to be real golf. Their community is built on the radical premise that beginners, singles, theme-party enthusiasts, and scratch golfers can all share the same tee sheet — and that the best golf trip is the one where you laugh more than you grind. For women wondering if there is a place for them in the game, GolfPartyLive is the answer.
